Rhino rolls on with the fifth installment of their excellent country series,
Heroes of Country Music. This time out, country-rock -- or, as it might be referred to, alt-country roots -- is on the menu, with classics from
Gram Parsons (via
the International Submarine Band and
the Flying Burrito Brothers),
the Byrds,
Bob Dylan,
Delaney & Bonnie, and
the Everly Brothers. There are also some fine contributions by such often-overlooked country rockers as
Michael Nesmith and
Commander Cody, not to mention latter-day chart-toppers like
Marshall Tucker Band,
Pure Prairie League, and
Linda Ronstadt. A welcome chronicle of a genre often overlooked.
